MANAUS

Mercado Aldolfo Lisboa

The City

Well, Manaus is a very interesting city, starting for the fact that is located in the middle of Amazon. The major fact is that Manaus is a huge center of industry in north region and pulse in this way. Also economy is robust and gives another features for a city that in the past 200 hundred years was simple and pacific. Nowadays the metropolis of Manaus is more like a ordinary big town with great problems in transportation and still almost isolated by land. There’s just few roads linking small cities in Amazonas’s state. However we must to remember the natural part which we all are really interested is magnific and paramount.

The Night

There is so many things to do in Manaus, for example every wednesday, there is Tacacá na Bossa, in São Sebastião square, it’s very close to the Teatro Amazonas and you can enjoy local artist specially playing music but sometimes theater. You also can enjoy some beers in Armando Bar located the other side of the square or even goes to Caldeira Bar to listen and dance a hot Samba. Around the central region there is other options like Arte e Fato and O Chefão, both more into a pub style, the entrance is more or less R$ 20,00 reais but worth. To end the night you can go to Porão do Alemão it’s a rock bar, Jack n’Blues, rock, blues and jazz. If you want something more quiet  Ponta Negra is the tip, there’s music, sushi, pizza and so  on ,it’s 30 minutes from the center by taxi. In the Sundays there’s a very nice reggae in Aomirante Bar, it starts 17hr until 00:00hrs.

The Tourism

Personally working one year in this field I think that there’s so many things to do but the city doesn’t help  it self , I mean the state of Amazonas and its policies. About what to do here as tourism you must to know Presidente Figueiredo and the waterfalls, Novo Airão and the pink dolphins, , rapel in Presidente Figueiredo, meeting of the Waters, Adolfo Lisboa Market, Palácio Rio Negro e Teatro Amazonas. If you have time spend a night in Ariaú Towers or Amazon Ecopark. It’s also possible to fish in a private tour or a more specific agenda. I recommend Gero Tours and Amazon Explorers for daily tours, for big tours with a great amount of people I recommend Anavilhanas Eco Turismo, every one with decades working with tourism in this region.

The Hotels/Hostels

In Manaus there’s a large range of hotels and hostels. About hotel I can recommend Ceasar Business, Amazônia Tower Hotel and Boutique Hotel Casa Teatro for something formal. About hostel the good ones is, Hostel Manaus, Gol Backpackers and Manaus Hostel.

Sairé Festival

The Sairé Festival already exists through 300 years and is an annual event that happen in September in Santarém, in the village of Alter do Chão. The festival features two stages, the first is the second most important and religious for the villagers, because tells the religious stories of the amazonic region and revives the opulence of ancient times, not to mention the prestige given to the most ancient and traditional group "Espanta Cão", still follows a beautiful procession of people full of colors and music. The second part is more modern and it's a kind of carnival of the Amazon which tells the story of the "Boto Tucuxi" and "Boto cor de Rosa", as traditional in the village.
The festival attracts more and more tourists, as this event brings in addition to the dolphins, the national attractions very apreciated. causing it to extend their stay for another day.

Ilha do Marajó? how to arrive?

To get to Marajo Island, the tourist will be required to go through Belém, The best way to reach it is by plane,if you come from other regions of Brazil. You'll have to move to Docas do Pará Company Terminal. The trip takes three hours to Porto Camara, this trip is very amazing. Already in Icoroaci, leaving ferries that take more or less the same time to reach the Porto Camara.
There is a bus line that runs alongside the airport and go to Docas do Pará Terminal (10 or warehouse of Docas do Pará Company), the 634 - and MAREX / ARSENAL. Notice if there is on the windshield plate "CENTER" to travel past the edge of Belém, around the Bay and Bay of passing through the port warehouses.

Once you get to Porto Camara, without the tourist vehicle you'll with dozens of bus lines that go basicaly to three places: Salvaterra, Soure, Arari's Waterfall. So you must to take what interest to you, after that, all buses will ferry the next arrival, because there is no regular line to this location.
Some 31 km to Soure and just over 25 km to Salvaterra. Between the two cities there is a ferry operating frequency, but remains in operation up to 19h and on Sunday until 18h. However, there are small boats that make the river crossing, and work 24 hours. Otherwise go through alone, the boat leaves on time.

Be clever for the prices, bargain man!

Some explanations about the Brazilian Amazon!

Do not be afraid to travel and see. Alligators, snakes, spiders etc?.

They live in their natural environment and of course you will not find animals like this in the street, if you really want to see animals, you must to do small excurssions or in the jungle trails that are a little far from the cities. Between Belém, Manaus and Santarém many people live in large cities, for example Belém is the second most important metropolis from the north region of the country with a population of 2.058.191 million and not get behind the cities of Manaus with 2,168,870 inhabitants, and Santarém with 300,000 inhabitants, these cities have much importance in view of the economic and touristic of the North region.
